Type 1 Diabetes – Symptoms

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic health condition in which the immune system attacks the insulin producing cells referred to as beta cells in your pancreas. Once the beta cells are wiped off, body can’t produce insulin further. Insulin is a hormone required to helps glucose to enter the cells to generate energy. Therefore there is excessive amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. 

 

Type 1 diabetes is also referred to as insulin dependent diabetes or juvenile diabetes as this condition is usually diagnosed in young children and adolescent. Type 1 diabetes has no cure and the patient has to take daily injections of insulin and take care of their lifestyle and diet to prevent further complications.

Symptoms of Type 1 diabetes:

  • Extreme thirst
  • Increase hunger
  • Frequent urination 
  • Unexpected weight loss
  • Weakness and fatigue
