Steps Towards the Prevention of Swine Flu

Swine flu is a highly communicable disease and can be difficult to treat if not recognized on time. The best treatment for any disease is to avoid it. Few changes in day to day life can help in avoiding swine flu to a certain extent. Some of the tips to prevent swine flu are listed below:

Wash hands

Regular hand washing is very important to maintain hygiene and avoid flu. Try to wash hand after coming from outside. Do wash your hands after using toilets and prior to eating. If you visit the flu-infected person, wash your hands afterward. Avoid touching your face with your hands as much as possible.

Wear mask

Swine flu is a droplet infection which means it can be transmitted from an infected person to a healthy individual via small fluid droplets which are present in air as a result of coughing or sneezing. N95 masks are known to be effective in avoiding airborne infections and should be worn especially when near an infected person or in crowded places.

Avoid crowded places

Many people may have swine flu and may not know it. You are most likely to come in contact with an infected person in crowds or public places like markets and public transports etc. Try to avoid public places when possible. Also, avoid using public toilets.

Avoid eating out

Avoid eating out whenever there is an ongoing flu. Avoid meats and especially pork as they are home for the H1N1 virus. Try to eat home cooked food and only eat at hygienic places, if required.

Other than that, going for regular check-ups during the flu-season is also a way to keep safe from it. Also, don’t ignore minor symptoms.
