DVT or Deep Vein Thrombosis is a lesser-known term but in the medical world, it is one of the cases which turn up quite often and also included in the list of medical emergencies.
So, Deep Vein Thrombosis is basically a blood clot that develops in any of the deep veins in the body. The most usual kind of DVT is found in the leg.
The most common symptoms of DVT include leg pain and swelling, but in many cases, no symptoms show at all.
So why is DVT considered to be such a serious condition?
As stated, it is basically a blood clot. It can turn serious when these clots loosen up and travel through your bloodstream, making their way to the lungs, blocking the blood flow. This is also known as pulmonary embolism.
How can it be detected? (Pulmonary Embolism)
The symptoms of pulmonary embolism are:
- Shortness of breath
- Rapid Pulse
- Coughing up blood
- Chest Pain
- Dizziness
All these symptoms should be treated as emergency symptoms and the patient must be taken to the nearest specialized hospital at the earliest.
