Tendinitis: The most common reason of shoulder pain is inflammation or soreness of the tendon in your rotator cuff from over use of the shoulder. It is a common injury in athletes who are into sports like tennis, volley ball, weight lifting and swimming. 

Bursitis: It is a soreness of the bursa, small slippery fluid filled sacs in the middle of your shoulder joint and rotator cuff tendons. Bursa prevents the joint and helps it function smoothly. 

Tendon Strain: The tendon of the rotator cuff is injured either partially or completely. It can cause due to a sudden injury on outcome of a repetitive motion. If a tendinitis is not treated on time this can lead to a tendon strain. 

Shoulder Impingement: It happens when there is an impingement of tendons in the shoulder. In other words, when the rotator cuff rubs on the bones in the shoulder it causes consistent pain, swelling and injury.
