Managing Migraine During Pregnancy

Managing Migraine during Pregnancy

Migraine is really common in women these days and it is a cause of real concern when you are pregnant and suffer from Migraine attacks. Unfortunately, there is no cure for migraine but it can be avoided to some extent. Here are some dos and don’ts of migraine during pregnancy:

Avoid triggers

Best way to avoid migraine is to stay away from trigger foods. You may have cravings to such foods during pregnancy but make sure you don’t eat too much of trigger food as they can cause headache and increase your nausea. Also, stay hydrated and avoid too much stress.  You can also switch to herbal tea and avoid too much caffeine.

Take Rest

Resting in a quiet and dark room can improve migraine. Make sure there are no LED lights and cell phone lights to have a good nap.

Aromatherapy

Some aroma oils like peppermint and lavender oils can help in relaxing and reducing migraine. You can add a few drops of these oils in your bath or on your pillow to avoid headaches. Aroma oils also improve mood and help to avoid frequent mood swings which are very common during pregnancy.

Eat well

Eating well is crucial in both pregnancy and migraine. Try to eat whole foods and reduce fatty foods. Don’t stay hungry for too long as it can also lead to headaches and gastrointestinal irritation.

Consult doctor

Before taking any pain medication, make an appointment with your doctor. Some pain medications may negatively affect the fetus. So, always ask your doctor before you take any additional medicines than the prescribed ones.
