In India, we don’t need to familiarize you with Jaundice as it is pretty much common in most regions. The main cause of Jaundice is consumption of contaminated food and other factors that affect your liver. It is usually treated with adequate rest and proper dietary intake. Even after it is cured, your body might be left with some of the effects. For an adult body, it includes:
Reduced metabolism
Liver is majorly responsible for metabolism of proteins and fats in our body. Due to liver ailments, metabolism is affected. Problems like indigestion, less energy and stress might show up. It may stay for a while after jaundice and if eating and sleeping patterns are not improved it may cause more problems and you fall ill frequently.
Yellow discoloration of skin
Due to increase in bile pigments known as bilirubin and biliverdin, these pigments reach blood circulation to manifest yellow colour in eyes, nails, and skin. This is a temporary effect of jaundice and vanishes usually within few weeks without any after effects.
Reduced appetite
Appetite is affected due to reduced digestion. Problems like vomiting, acidity and heart burn may occur after eating. You may require eating simple and easily digestible food for a while like boiled veggies and porridge etc. Do not eat heavy meals at once. Take a number of small meals in a day to improve digestion and get fit like always.
Generalised weakness
As a result of reduced digestion, energy production in body is low and the body becomes weak. It may take a while to perform activities of day to day life in a normal way without fatigue. It is important to start exercising a little bit and consume high glucose food to improve bodily functions.
Most importantly, you should remain in touch with your doctor even when your illness improves. It is important to consult as the doctor knows how to eventually eradicate the symptoms of weakness in the patient.
